It is ok to agree to disagree
Communication is a two way street...if what another says is unclear the listener can say.."I don't understand"...Sometimes I wasn't meant to understand...At times I was only put in place to listen and offer a wam embrace an a silent prayer and that was all that was needed at the time..
Other times...I have had to say.."I don't agree". There are folks who do attempt to insist on forcing their beliefs or way of thinkning on us...that is their issue...it is up to us as individuals to "Stand up for what we believe in even if we stand alone"....I do not know the author of that quote..it was on a poster in a recovery meeting and it struck a cord with me. I had been told so often, "Don't rock the boat"..."Go with the flow"...I had gone with the flow so often I had lost myself and conformed to what ever anyone else wanted to the point where I had no clue who I was and had no beliefs or values of my own. Today I am blessed to have integrity, values and beliefs and yet I also am open minded enough to be able to listen to others, then after listening, I do have the ability to say, "I understand, and I do not agree but you are free to have your own beliefs, I will not take them away from you."
