I can only guess what went through the minds of several folks with a whole LOT of sober time. Don't folks GET the traditions and why we DON'T do some things?
Front page of the Sunday paper--bigger than life--two PAGES of A.A. Complete with photos. Complete with first and last names of some of the members who spoke with the reporter. Complete with a 'tag' in the article about honouring their anonymity and then using their names just the same. Complete with the AlAnon first and last names, too. What were they thinking?!?!
It's a nice article. Speaks highly of what was brought to the life of some folks as a result of finding Alcoholic Anonymous. All nicely done 'in honour' of a long term member celebrating 35 years of continuous sobriety.
Oy....
Front page of the Sunday paper.....*sigh*
Tradition 11. Our public relations policy is based on attraction rather than promotion; we need always maintain personal anonymity at the level of press, radio and film.

You over looked one thing Morey. Some people still want the attention and to be noticed.
Take care.

*sigh* I don't think that I forgot that self importance/ego aspect--I think me and my little expectations were way out there. I EXPECTED folks with some time in to actually honour the traditions. Duh ME! *sigh* I had a 'chat' with a couple of folks and there's a business meeting tonight that I don't know that I'll be able to attend (stupid back problems). The good news is the back problems are keeping me right here....LOL I needed yesterday just to gain a bit of perspective and acceptance.....elsewise I'da been having a whole LIST of folks to be making amends to....LOL I know folks will be saying what's true at the meeting tonight and addressing the breech of the traditions. And while I can speculate at what drove that decision for the multitude of folks who disregarded the traditions, I don't get to KNOW until I hear from them. In the meantime, I'll be making copies of the story, handing it to all my pigeons and saying DON'T DO THIS, EVER!!! Wiseperson always told me--"If you can't be a good example, at least you can be a good warning". ;D

Some people think the Traditions are just for the groups. I have found them to be helpful tools to take outside of the rules and apply them to my life. Perhaps a few other people should think that way, but then we can't tell anyone.
Sometimes they just don't get it. Sadly they take others with them.
I am responsible when anyone anywhere reaches out for help, I want the hand of AA always to be there, and for that, I am responsible.
Sadly they aren't looking for help, although I see it as such. They need the program just as much as the newcomer coming into the room. Many years in recovery can build up a surprising amount of ego.
EGO - Easing God Out!
