A New World ^*^*^ "We have entered the world of the Spirit. Our next function is to grow in understanding and effectiveness. This is not an overnight matter. It should continue for our lifetime. Continue to watch for selfishness, dishonesty, resentment, and fear. When these crop up, we ask God at once to remove them. We discuss them with someone immediately and make amends quickly if we have harmed anyone. Then we resolutely turn our thoughts to someone we can help." ©1976AAWS, Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 84 ^*^*^*^*^*
Thought to Consider . . .
Within our wonderful new world, we have found freedom from our fatal obsession.

AA Thought for the Day (courtesy AAOnline.net) August 31, 2007 Concern If we have the opportunity to help in some practical way when our loved ones or other people we are concerned about are in trouble -- let's do so. If there is no such opportunity, let's pray for them and believe that, in doing so, we are helping to connect their minds to God's influence. But let's not expect same-day service. The important part is not to cancel our prayers by later worrying. (There is a vast difference between being concerned and worrying.) Long-distance, unconditional faith is the best kind. c. 1973 AAWS, Came To Believe . . ., p. 26 With permission, Alcoholics AnonymousWorld Services, Inc.

AA Thought for the Day (courtesy AAOnline.net) October 11, 2007 Self-protective Now is the time, the only time there is. And if we are not kind to ourselves right now, we certainly cannot rightfully expect respect or consideration from others. We have found we can enjoy, sober, every good thing we enjoyed while drinking -- and many, many more. It takes a little practice, but the rewards more than make up for the effort. To do so is not selfish, but self-protective. Unless we cherish our own recovery, we cannot survive to become unselfish, ethical, and socially responsible people. c. 1998 AAWS, Living Sober, p. 42 With permission, Alcoholics Anonymous World Services, Inc.
Thought to Ponder . . . Keep yourself clean and bright; you are the window through which you must see the world.

As my sponsor told me many years ago, you may be the only Big Book someone may see. If I have recovery, then I need to look, what, talk recovered.

October 12, 2007 Essentials
The AA members who sponsored me told me in the beginning that I would not only find a way to live without having a drink, but that I would find a way to live without wanting to drink, if I would do these simple things. They said if you want to know how this program works, take the first word of your question -- the "H" is for honesty, the "O" is for open-mindedness, and the "W" is for willingness; these our Big Book calls the essentials of recovery. c. 2001 AAWS, Alcoholics Anonymous, pp. 549-550 With permission, Alcoholics Anonymous World Services, Inc.

AA Thought for the Day (courtesy AAOnline.net) October 13, 2007 Abstinence Unlike most of our crowd, I did not get over my craving for liquor much during the first two and one-half years of abstinence. It was almost always with me. But at no time have I been anywhere near yielding. I used to get terribly upset when I saw my friends drink and I could not, but I schooled myself to believe that though I once had the same privilege, I had abused it so frightfully that it was withdrawn. So it doesn't behoove me to squawk about it for, after all, nobody ever had to throw me down and pour liquor down my throat. - Dr. Bob S., AA Co-founder c. 2001 AAWS, Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 181 With permission, Alcoholics Anonymous World Services, Inc.

We have a way out on which we can absolutely agree, and upon which we can join in brotherly and harmonious action. This is the great news this book carries to those who suffer from alcoholism. c. 2001 AAWS, Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 17 With permission, Alcoholics Anonymous World Services, Inc.

AA Thought for the Day (courtesy AAOnline.net) October 21, 2007 Ninety Days Angry doesn't begin to describe how I felt when I had to admit I was an alcoholic. Even though I was grateful not to be nuts, as I'd first supposed, I felt cheated. All the people I saw sitting around the tables of AA had been granted many more years of drinking than I. It just wasn't fair! Someone pointed out to me that life was rarely fair. I wasn't amused, but extending my drinking career simply wasn't an option anymore. Ninety days sober cleared my thinking enough to make me realize I'd hit bottom. Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 314 With permission, Alcoholics Anonymous World Services, Inc.
