Today do something for someone you love: Leave them alone.
"Walk Softly and Carry a Big Book"It is hard to show love when you can't find it within yourself. Getting out of self and off the pity pot, and focusing on others helps us to find ourselves through others. Yet as the quote says, we don't take hostages, we don't caretake, we don't smother, and we learn to detach. We need to focus on our recovery. Let go of old tapes, leave the past in the past and focus on today. When we look into the future, we often look at it from the point of view of the past. We forget that we have a program and if we work our program, what happened in the past, mistakes and decisions, etc. do not have to happen the same as they did before. When we get better, the people around us can see the change. Hopefully, they will want what we have. The best love I can give my family is to stay clean and sober myself. I don't have to prove anything and I don't have to go to them for approval. Attachments:

I found early in my recovery that my parents had not been capable of showing me love. They bought me "things" adn I guess they thought that wasd th way to show it. What you live with you practice, and what you practice you learn. So i foudn it hard t9o love. I had to first learn to love and forgive myself and then I wasd avble to love others.

As the slogan says, "Let it begin with me." How can I have true forgiveness, compassion and love for others if I can't have it for myself.
