"We begin to pray only for God's will for us. That way, we get only what we are capable of handling."
Basic Text pg. 47
Imagine what might happen if God gave us everything we wanted. A fabulous new car, straight A's, a triple salary raise - all ours without effort, just for the asking.

When you think about it, we general used because we couldn't cope with life. Our drugs were our coping tool. Sometimes it was the littlest thing that was the last straw, often a bunch of small things that added up to a big thing a big deal, and we got to a stage where we thought we had no other option but to use.
I have often been very leary about buying a Lotto 649 ticket because I thought, "Gee, what if I won?" Could I handle all that money and stay clean and sober."
Yet when I was using, I lived in this dream world and everything was very grandiose, and I would dream of winning a Million dollars, when in fact, by the time, I got finished spending it, the addict in me would need $10 Million to buy it all.
So many people don't realize that by giving you received. So many people who give, have a problem with receiving. Many are takers and don't realize that rewards aren't money, but priceless gifts of peace, serenity, and hope, all too numerous to mention. Those little blessings that come to us when we work the program.
When the pupil is ready, the teacher will appear. They come in many shapes and sizes and I call them Earth Angels. As much as we may want something, there are things that we are just not capable of handling at the moment.
I was told the Fourth Step was done in today. What you remmber in today. What comes from your past and followed you into today. If we looked at the whole picture, we would get overwhelmed and often out of fear, we omit some, avoid the Step or postpone it. I used for so many years, that it isn't possible to bring up everything at one time, some stuff was buried so deep that it didn't come out until many years later. I went for sexual assault counselling at 15 years sober. I thought I had already dealt with it in my 4th, but I was triggered by a relationship, and I had to go back and revisit the past, so I could completely let go.
As the saying goes, "The worst days in recovery is better than the best day when I was out there using."
What goes around comes around. What you put out you get back.
