O is for Original. Just bought the first edition of the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. I am a firm believer in first things first and going back to basics. I had to be open to what the old timers had to say, I was fortunate to meet up with men and women who had 20 to 60 years in AA. They taught me what to do and what not to do if I wanted to maintain my recovery.

P is for Patience. Patient with yourself and others. Be careful what you ask for, you just might find some things to tolerate in order to practice patience. I still find myself doing what I did in early recovery. Pushing the disabled button, waiting for it to open, so I can walk through it. The only difference in today, is that I am disabled and have to wait. It is no longer a fact and a test, it is a fact of life.

Q is for Quell. Quell the negative thoughts that come to mind. Be honest, look at what is and see if they belong in the past or the present and what you need to change them. Just because you have a feeling doesn't mean you have to act on it. Quell or quit, or what ever other word you want to use, anything that isn't good for your recovery. I had to look with self-honest, and open mind, and a willingness to see things as they really are, not as I would have them be or what I want them to be, and quickly take things to my God, apply the program, and allow things to go through the process, without me quitting and giving up.

R is for Resist. Resist your own thoughts, take them to your Higher Power. Resist temptation. How do you do that? Say the Serenity Prayer. You can't wear it out, repeat it as many times as you need to. It takes practice to say it once, and have faith that it will work, sometimes we resist, because of our control issues.

T is for Touch. Reach out and touch someone. Share your recovery with others. A hug is good, a smile is too, but sharing your experience, strength, and hope touches peoples hearts and teaches others, that they are not alone.

U is for Us. I am so glad you joined this site and made the decision to join us on the road to recovery. Without you, there is no me. It amazes me that the ABCs continue on, some are repeats, some many times over, but they still are true and still very much a truth if someone wants to stay clean and sober. They bring a unity to us all, when we learn to identify instead of comparing with each other.

V is for Vanity. It is a defect of character. It is a short coming too when acted out, especially if you add pride to it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vanity

Y is for Yellow. Yellow means Caution. You may not think you are an addict, the key word is "yet" and you just might find yourself caught up in the obsessive, compulsive things that you can't say "No" to and find yourself saying, "Yes," just too many times.

Z is for Zombie. When we are using, we are not ourselves. We block out our God's will, we allow our drug of choice to dictate our lives.
