O is for Ouch. They say when we hurt enough, the we will find some willingness to change. We don't have to hurt so much if we embrace change, which can cause pain, but it is so much better when you work your way through it and get to the other side. If your "Ouch" is a real "Owwww" in your life, look at what needs to be changed.

P is for Patience. Have it if you can. I have difficulty in being patient with myself. I don't like to give myself credit for trying and often find that things are less than I would have them be. In other words, the ego comes out and the Great I Am wants to take over my life. I need to surrender and accept my humanness.

Q is for Quiet. This is one of my favourite "Q" words. Quieting my mind, so I can hear the Good Orderly Direction from my Higher Power. Letting go of the internal chatter and the ego, so I can be open to receive what I need in today. It takes quite a lot of practice to get to a stage where your mind takes back seat and quits interrupting.

R is for Recovery. I went into recovery about my prescription drug and alcohol problem. I found out that I had to recover from a lot of other things, like my food and work addictions. I also found that I had a gambling issue and a computer problem because of my love of Nevada Tickets and building my own sites. The 12 Steps of recovery covered all areas of my life.

S is for Strength. The Serenity Prayers states that your God will give you the strength you need for today. Not only strength, but courage and wisdom too. To get that strength, you need to connect with your Higher Power, and He/She will give you peace. When you are in that space, all things are possible.

T is for Thank You. A little manners go a long way. Thank you for our food. Thank you for the sunshine. Thank you for another day of sobriety.

U is for Unity. This is a "WE" program and we have to unite in order to recover. When one alcoholic/addict shares with another alcoholic/addict, we heal together. Alcohol is a drug. Many don't want to understand that, it gives them an out and say, "Well at least I didn't pick up my drug of choice." I understand in today, my drug of choice was more.

V is for Very. You really need to want recovery. You have to be very sure that you are willing to do what ever it takes to get clean and sober. If you can't find the willingness, pray for it as well as anything else you need to stay clean and sober, just for today. I am very sure that I would not be alive in today if it were not for a 12 Step program. I am very sure that I love you. Let us love you until you can learn to love yourself.

W is for Worth. I amy worthy of recovery. My self-worth was very low because I had been a victim of verbal abuse all of my life, starting with my father. You know those old sayings, "If you had a brain in your head it would get lonesome." Then there is my favourite, "If you had a brain in your head it would rattle." From my husband, "What makes you think your opinion matters" and "Who ask for your opinion, what makes you think it is important." I was told to make new tapes, and rememmber that I was the one who was in charge of the "Play" button. I could also rewind, fast forward, or press stop, I no longer had to be the victim and martyr, I was worth more than what I was lead to believe.

X is for X-Ray. Go within and look for the answers. Don't go outside of yourself to make yourself feel better. Does the inside match the outside? Are you still wearing masks? Are you being the real you?

Y is for Yield. Yield not to temptation. Yield to the program, allow it to make changes in your life. You didn't get that way over night, don't expect that you will get better over night. Some of us are sicker than others.

Z is for Zip. It is best to zip my lip, take the plugs out of my ear, and learn to listen. Put some zip into your life by connecting with your God and allow Him to Direct your path.
