So true, but the ego can follow them into recovery. I can remember thinking and saying, "I've forgotten more than you'll ever know about AA. I went to two meetings a day for 2 years." It didn't mean I was an authority, it just meant that I was one of the really sick ones. I use to say about my ex-husband, "If he was half as smart as he thinks he is, he would be a smart man." E.G.O., easing God out and thinking we know it all. So grateful that my God's Love is unconditional.

Love this quote. So many people call the service work I do as EGO. They figure I am full of myself and looking for attention, or whatever. For me, Tradition Five gave me purpose for living, when I had given up on the world.
Our primary purpose is to carry the message to the alcoholic/addict who still suffers. End of Story.
A good thing happened to me today. I told the cashier to put the cherries that I had back along with 2 pkgs of bacon @ 2 for $10.00. The guy behind me said give her the cherries and I'll pay the difference, the cashier gave him the change and he in turn gave the change from a $20. back to me. I have a real hard time receiving. This is the third time someone has done this for me. I told the guy that I would pay it forward.
I can remember in early recovery, like it when I got the long step or tradition to read. My sponsor told me that I liked the sound of my own voice, now that was ego.
As I discussed with a long-timer and on FB, the longer I am in recovery, the less I know.
Humility means to remain teachable, not to teach everyone and tell them how it is done. If people worked my program, they would probably go out and use. We each have to find a program that work for them, although it gets a bit dicey, when you start to leave things out like going to meetings. The internet and this site has been my home group for years. I was up all night and all morning without sleep, so I missed my AA home group again this week. Hopefully I will be able to make my NA meeting tomorrow night.
My God has been very good to me.
