U is for Understanding. The program says, "the God of your understanding." Not the God you were taught about growing up, not about the one you often hear mentioned in the rooms of recovery, but your God. What does God mean to you? You need to come to a new understanding of God. Even if it is an old one revisited, it is about building a personal relationship with that God. You may call Him/Her, Higher Power, Spirit of the Universe, The Source, God, and many more. It is you to choose. I was a year sober when I went on a spiritual quest. I am still on that journey. My God is as He reveals Himself to me in today.

V is for Victory. Victory over this disease or if you wish dis-ease. I was at disease within myself and I looked outside of myself for something to make me feel better. Never did I think that I had to go within to find the answers.

W is for WE. WE can do what I can't do alone. United we stand against this disease of addiction.

X is for Xenophobia. Fear of strangers and aliens. We alcoholics and addicts suffer from great paranoia. Often fearful of our own shadows and our magic magnifying mind can make mountains out of molehills. Isolation is part of our disease. We need to turn our fears over to our Higher Power and ask that they be removed. When we put our faith in Him, we no longer have to act out in our dis-ease.

Y is for Yellow. Yellow says to us "Be cautious." We can become complacent and our recovery can get stale, and we think we are just fine and start comparing ourselves to others. The next thing we start thinking, "I am not so bad, I never did what those people did." Comparing instead of identifying, can make us forget that we may not have done things yet, but if we go back, we will be surprised where lire will take us.

Z is for Zero. Something from nothing is still nothing. If you haven't worked the Steps, can't expect to heal and get better. Meetings are good, but it is the Steps we need to climb before we can get out of where we have been. The Fellowship is good, but you still need a sponsor to guide you through the Steps.
