U is for Urge. When you get the urge to use, say a prayer. The Serenity Prayer always worked for me. A simple "Help" will do too. You can go for a walk, Nature makes it more inspiring. You can get down on your knees. I was told that God answers knee-mail.

V is for Voice. Sometimes it is good to voice your opinion. Other times it is best that your voice not be heard. Don't feed into an argument. Don't start an argument. Learn to compromise and agree to disagree.

W is for Willing to be Willing. Sometimes we find ourselves not quite ready to let some person, place, thing, habit, pattern, defect, short coming go. That is when we need to pray for the willingness to do God's Will, not ours be done.

X is for X-Ray. Take a look inside by working an honest Step 4. Look at where you are going, look at where you have been, and where you are in today.

Y is for Yet. I haven't done that yet. I will if I continue in my disease. My dis-ease will tell me I am not that bad. It will tell me to compare instead of identifying. You don't have to go all the way to the dump. You can stop now.

Z is for Zebra. Recovery is learning that everything isn't always black and white unless you are a Zebra. There is always a little negative in the positive and there is generally some positive to be found in the negative.

B is for Believe. Believe that the program will work for you. Believe in God with your own understanding, and believe in yourself, you are worthy of recovery.

C is for Connection. It is important to connect to the people in the rooms of recovery. Through them I learned to connect to a Higher Power. Through that connection I learned that the power was not me. I was powerless. The good news was, if I surrendered, not give up, but give over to my Higher Power, I was empowered to do what I needed to do to stay clean and sober in today.
Just for today, I choose not to use.

D is for Dry. Many put a plug in the plug in the jug and don't work the program, which are the 12 steps. The continue to act out in their dis-ease and don't find the spiritual solution.
Addicts too will put down the drugs and think they have found the answer. They don't realize that the drugs are but a symptom of their disease, the problem stems from within them.

E is for Everything. When I asked what do I need to change. I was told EVERYTHING. Do the exact opposite if what you use to say, do and think. Not easy.

F is for Faith. I was reminded of something mother said to me many years ago, "Is your faith so weak, it hits the ceiling and bounces back at you.". Faith and fear can not occupy the same space.

G is for Grace. But for the Grace of God, I would be dead. But for the Grace of my God, I would not be clean and sober in today.

J is for Just for Today. Just go today I choose not to use.
Just for today I will try to live through this day only, and not tackle all my problems at once. I can do something for twelve hours that would appall me if I felt that I had to keep it up for a lifetime.
Just for today I will be happy. This assumes to be true what Abraham Lincoln said, that “Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be.”

M is for Music. Music soothed the soul and brings me peace and joy. Doesn't matter too much what kind of music, as long as it has a beat. It help to get our rhythm and timing back.
