I think something cool about admitting we are powerless actually give us more power....power to make our own choices, power to let go of control, Power to find our own happiness, power to work on ourselves and not be dependent on what others say and do..

So many people say that the principle of Step One is honesty, and it is. I think it is so much more than that. I had to surrender and say, "I can do this myself, I need help." I also need to accept that I had a disease, and surrender to the fact that I needed the program. For me to surrender, was to win.
When I surrendered, I was empowered to do what I needed to do for myself, one day at a time. The Serenity Prayer was the answer. I couldn't wear it out. It was applicable to all parts of my life.

I can't edit my previous post, when I posted as Caressa. It should read, "I can't do this myself." When I say I can, I am playing God with my life.

Step One is a step I have to do every day. I can't forget that I am an alcoholic. My disease is in remission, and it never goes away; always looking for an opportunity to slip back into my life. My recovery is based on the fact that I not forget that and I need to continue building a strong spiritual defense against it. My life is unmanageable when managed by me. We tend to remember the first half of Step One and forget that there is a second part.

I was told I had to work the first half of step one 100%. I had to continue working on the second half, the rest of my life. My life is unmanageable, when managed by me.

Just finished my third step 1 today everytime i do a step 1 i learn more about myself but i also struggle getting through it as if it was my first almost as if it was my first time doing it. Really curious to start step 2 with my sponsor whos got nearly 30 years in the program.
