PRECIOUS AND UNIQUE
Samuel Thadeus Short
“Every grain of dust has a wonderful soul.” — Joan Miro
Human beings have been known to act toward other people as though they were things, objects instead of subjects like themselves. Men sometimes act this way toward women; parents toward children, the young toward the old. We must guard against this tendency among ourselves which is literally disrespect for the individual and is always dangerous. Each human is a unique and precious being. It inures the spirit to forget that even for a moment. And when we remember it, we are able to act in concert with our self respecting humans. In respecting ourselves fully, we show others how to treat us, and as we treat them respectfully we acknowledge and enhance humanity. The quality of human interactions can be so wonderful; why should we deface it by forgetting the uniqueness of others?
Unique, what a wonderful word. Individual, yet all connected through one Spirit. This is why I like working with crystals and stones. It reminds me that I am no greater than no lesser than, and that all things are here through the love of God who created everything equal. In fact, man was the last of his creations. Does that mean He saved the best to last; or does it mean that everything that went before us was put there for our use; or was it because without the earth, the sky, the water, and the creatures of the world we don't or can't exist; or does it mean that they were made first, and are just as important as I am. I like to think the latter. Each has their own message to carry, their own worth, and reason for being.
