Today's reading, gave me pause for thought. When I get up in front of a room to share my story, I often say, "I am not here to do a 4th and 5th, I am here to qualify. I have an honest desire not to use, and I have no desire to go back there. I try to focus on what brought me to recovery, to share what I learned and how it has helped me to get to where I am in today. So many focus on what was and leave very little for recovery. The message we are suppose to carry is how we stopped using and stay stopped. Not about what we need to stop or what we used, everyone knows how to do that. Not everyone knows how to recover. For me it was meetings and more meetings, a sponsor, and working the Steps. So many people rush through the steps and figure they are done. It is just the beginning. It takes us at least 11 months to detox. To get truly honest, took me a long time. I was honest to the best of my ability at the time. Yet self-honesty takes time, and it is progress not perfection. It is about what is happening in today. What from my past, still affects me in today. What have I learned from my past that has helped me grow in today. eor.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=spuds&action=display&thread=10230&page=1

I agree...We do tell how we got here but most importantly we share the message of hope and we focus on the gift of the precious present moment NOW.. Today is a gift .. Each step forward is a new gift because it is a new NOW moment.. We all have ar stories...It doesn't matter so much how we got here...What matters more is HOW we are staying here and what we are doing to learn How to LIVE clean and sober
