Yeah, yeah....I read it in Coffee Shop but I wanted a chance to congratulate you and G-d on the job well done.
I liked what you shared about Mickey B.'s experience and the humbling message given to him by his mother.
I was one who spent a whole lot of energy trying to get other's approval. When that didn't work, I swung to the opposite end of the spectrum and to heck with it--life's too short to do things that please other people....please MEMEME. And I did--at a pretty high price to others, which seemingly didn't matter when I was using and drinking.
Sober, I did the 'look at me, look at me, I done GOOD!' with the sponsor about twice...LOL From that point on, that look of "what, ya expecting some cookie?!" was enough to remind me. He had that same attitude that Mickey B's mother had....it's what ought to have been happening all along. I will tell ya, the moments when the fella did embrace me and told me he was proud--unforgettable... and they'll live forever. Cuz I know I'd gone above and beyond, that I'd done more than what was 'required' and I could be feeling good about the effort, no matter the result.
And ya know....'right living' has paid off a thousand fold. It just has.
I suspect you've discovered that as well.
Congratulations on the fifth anniversary of your sobriety date, Chris. And do keep coming back--I need ya....
