"Confess your hidden faults.
Approach what you find repulsive.
Help those you think you cannot help.
Anything you are attached to, let it go.
Go to the places that scare you."
Pretty awesome, simply said 'stuff', don't ya think? It hangs on my wall for a reason. And I'm one who believes that everything in G-d's world happens for a reason!
So----every year I do an inventory.....and every year I do the 5th step--I like keeping a 'clean house'. And despite doing that nightly tenth step, sometimes 'stuff' sneaks up to bite me in the rear. It's built in insurance for me to stay disciplined in working all 12 of the steps.
Anyway.... It would seem I have a new name...I'm sure it's said with the utmost love and affection! LOL
Yesterday after the meeting I got greeted by "Oh look--it's Lizard Brain." (this from an oldfart who I have a particular fondness for who seems to have taken a shining to me)
Lizard Brain..........I was attributing it to Daisy and Fanny-- we have lizard critters in this household.
No such luck....LOL
I dared to ask.
SILLY me!
"Ummmm.....LIZARD Brain?"
"Yeah....What does a Lizard Brain know?! Nothing. It has three responses: Fight, Flight or Freeze. Got that inventory done?"
Okay--so that was directed at me FOR a REASON. I'm pretty clear that this oldfart ALWAYS has a reason and a purpose!
Okay then....Fine....I'm now affectionately known as 'Lizard Brain'.
And ya know.....He might have a point.
"Go to the places that scare you."
There's a wise statement I'm getting to heed.
My first inventory was page upon page upon PAGE of resentments. I LIKED being resentful. Pretty darn easy to get pissed off. Much, MUCH tougher for me to admit that I'm fear-filled.
Today, I know just how often I operate out of 'fear'.
1. "I list my fears."
2. "I ask myself why I had them"--the justification I give myself for having the fear, which is generally another underlying fear.
3. "But did not I, myself, set the ball rolling? How did self-reliance fail me?"
(This included considering if my own selfishness and self-centeredness was infolved--how am/was I contributing to the fear? Is the fear real or imagined?)
4. And "what, perhaps, is a better way?"
Straight out of page 68. Oh boy, oh joy, oh happy days!
Ol' Lizard Brain is so stuck in the fears that she's even fearful about writing OUT the fears!
Inventory THAT! (yeah, I know--I'll GET to! LOL)
Yep---fight, flight or freeze......
I know.....surrender. Trust G-d.
*sigh*
As always, I have a deadline for the 4th step.
As always--it's a darn good thing.
I'm thinking I won't even mind DOING the sex relations this time...LOL
ANYTHING but the fears list!
