Pocket Sponsor - Book - Quote
Who knows why they are chemically dependent? The answer will not change the fact, and yet many continue to question, why? Indeed, they need an answer, but they are asking the wrong question. The real question is, 'How can I become free? Free of the fear. Free of the pain. Free of the bondage.
I do not receive the right answer when I ask the wrong question.
My sponsor use to say, you have the answers, they are within. As a parent, I found myself back asking the questions. As a daughter, I often questioned and ended up taking responsibility of other people's actions, when they were not mine to take on.
Freedom from the bondage of addiction. It is a family disease. The addict isn't the only one who is a slave to the drug(s). Only through a Power greater than myself, am I able to find that freedom from active addiction, not just to the drug, but to the obsession to fix and make everything better.
The only person I can change is myself. I can pray, and leave it in my Higher Power's Hand. I must remember that my addict has his only Higher Power and I am not it.

Freedom, especially of the spirit. When we are bogged down in all those questions instead of accepting what is, instead of accepting this wonderful gift that has been given to us. The gift of recovery, a new spiritual way of life through the 12 Steps of AA, which have been shared with many fellowships over the last 70 years. I was sharing with an Al-Anon friend a few days ago about how we don't metabolize things the same as other people do and how we have to accept it. Since she has been diagnosed with Diabetes, she has a better understanding of her husband's disease, who is deceased, which doesn't matter here or there, but it helps her own personal healing. As someone asked a member one time, "Why do you still go to those meetings, your husband has been dead for several years." The member replied, "Yes, but I still have to live with myself." Life is no more about the alcoholic or the addict, it is about us and who we are in today.

This was one of the cards I got in my meditation this morning. Yesterday I was stressed and my BP went up and I almost took the pill that the heart specialist prescribed for me. It is to bring down my BP. I haven't been taking it because my BP was where it is suppose to be. I went back today to have it checked after doing meditation last night and this morning, and it was almost back to normal which for me is between 125-135. So grateful for the tools of recovery.
