If it smells like a duck, looks like a duck, walks like a duck and talks like a duck... It's probably an alcoholic. - Unknown origin (Probably Duck)
- AlkiespeaksHave heard many times over, I don't know if I am an alcoholic or not. If the thought and question is there, then there is a good chance you are. If you go to stop, and you can't, then chances are you are an alcoholic. It isn't about how much you drink, it is what it does to you when you do drink. Does alcohol change you into someone you don't know? Or does alcohol change you into someone you don't want to know? Many people say, "Well I am a real alcoholic!" Well, it has been my experience that there is no such thing as being a little bit alcoholic. It is like being a little bit pregnant. It is a progressive state of body, mind and spirit. If you are in doubt, I would suggest you read the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. Take the questionnaire. I was in a lot of denial until I did the quiz. So pleased with myself that i got all the questions right. alcoholselfhelpnews.wordpress.com/2007/04/13/am-i-an-alcoholic-questionnaire/

One of our members shares that prior to recovery when asked why he drank so much he responded.."Because I'm an alcoholic" Now when asked why he doesn't drink he responds..."Because I'm an alcoholic" Same words however a whole new meaning and a whole new way of life. I can relate to that.

Never saw myself as an alcoholic probably because I didn't want to wear the label I projected onto others. Little did I know it was a program of reflection. It takes one to know one!
The quote today from Alkiespeaks today uses the phrase I quoted above:
Being a little bit alcoholic is like being a little bit pregnant. ( And the longer you go, the more it shows. ) - Unknown origin.

Love this quote. Found myself saying it at my Al-Anon's meeting after the meeting this week. i qualify for just about any room you put me in.
It was at 10 years old though that I stole the left over communion wine after church to see what I was missing. It was in a chalice and it had about an inch or so left in the bottom. I search for that "Ahhhhh! Feeling for the rest of my life." The only thing was, if I found it, I could stop, I had to have more. It took more and more alcohol along with pills (dried up alcohol) to reach that feeling and then it became totally allusive.

Was only governed by the amount that was available. Then as I crossed that invisible line went looking for more.
Some say I am just a heavy drinker. If it weghs on your soul, especially when someone says, you can't drink any more or takes your booze and car keys away. There is a good chance you are an alcoholic.
