The purpose of Celebrate Recovery ministry is to fellowship with others and to celebrate God’s healing power in our lives through the program’s Eight Recovery Principles. This experience allows those who work through the program to experience profound life change and freedom from their hurts, hang-ups and habits. By working and applying these Biblical principles, we begin to grow spiritually. We become free from our addictive, compulsive and dysfunctional behaviors. This freedom creates peace, serenity, joy and, most importantly, a stronger and personal relationship with God and with others. As we progress through the program we discover our personal, loving and forgiving Higher Power, Jesus Christ.

Correct me if I'm wrong Max.....
Celebrate Recovery is an alternative 12-step program for Christians.....
The "Higher Power" or "God of our Understanding" that traditional AA uses would not be useful in Celebrate Recovery as this is a Christian based 12-step program.
Personally, I think Celebrate Recovery is a blessing to all that will come to Essence of Recovery. If some find it offensive let them go to the traditional AA section. The God of my understanding is not a microwave or a parakeet....
I was never sure why but I felt uncomfortable saying my "higher power", now I know why....
Peace on the journey, SG

I feel the same way you do SG. I think if peopel are offended there are iother sections to post.
My city has a bronze statue of a civil war confederate soldier on teh courthouse lawn. It has been there for as long as I can remember. Now some people are offended by it and want it removed. I think people who have to have their ideas validated by taking away something that others enjoy should just learn to accept. It's like people taking the ten commandments off of the walls in schools and Nativity scenes in front of churches taken down. We each have the right to believe what we want and others should not take offense.
We all work our recovery in teh way that works best for us. if I was an alcoholic I think I would like the Christian approach.
Just my two cents.

Didn't realize that CR was to replace AA and Al-Anon in my life. This is 8 principles instead of the 12 Step program. I thought it was in addition too the program we already had.
So CR is to replace the program that saved my life. Will have to give this some thought. I do Bible reading on my own. Thanks for sharing.

You can read and post here or post in the sections that appeal to you. No one is pushing anything on anyone. Sorry if what you read upsets you, but Max brought us "Celebrate Recovery"..... And in my own personal opinion I believe it is a wonderful addition to this site. Peace on the journey, SG
