CHANGE OURSELVES COMPLETELY FROM THE INSIDE OUT

Sometimes we just change the outside -- buy new clothes or different kinds of clothes -- and our appearance changes. How much more if we change from inside -- every person's thinking, all the ideals and all the ways of focusing attention, everything changes. Of course we will look different, we will have changed.

It's not the vegetarian diet that makes you more compassionate, it's not the Method only that makes you noble. It's the way you devote yourself, it's the direction that you focus your new thinking and new way of life that makes you noble and become a new person. Because if we just learn the Method, if we just eat vegetarian, and we do not change our way of thinking, then that doesn't help much. We have to know why we are vegetarian, why we practice meditation; then our whole body, our whole being, our whole brain cells and the cells of the body will understand the purpose. Then we will change completely from the inside out. The conceptions must be clean and then the meditation will bear fruit and the way of life will become an example of goodness, nobility and peace.

EXPANDING CONSCIOUSNESS

Change has been an ongoing thing, partly due to age, and me not growing old gracefully.

A lot was changing the image I had of myself. Most of it was a result of old tapes, but not all of it. A lot of it was because I compared myself to others, always wanting to me other than who I was and not accepting of myself.

Those old tapes that said I was too stupid, didn't know, wasn't worthy, at least that is what my perception told me, so I had to change my perception as well as the image of myself.

I had to change my outlook and instead of going outside of myself for validation and affirmation, I had to go within. I had to connect with the Spirit within, the Essence of myself, who I was and am.

I didn't know. It has been like the relationship with my Higher Power. God is as He reveals Himself in today. Caressa is as she reveals herself in today, as she is ever changing, thanks to the gift of this program.

With the help of my Higher Power, and the people in the Fellowships(s), I learned to give the Child Within, the love she felt she never received, whether it was real or imaginary, it was how she felt. I had to learn to endorse those feelings and not give or throw them away.

Healthy pride is heavy with humility. If we can feel joyful when we succeed, and tell others about it honestly, we are not being boastful.

Today's Gift

This is an affirmation for me, because along this recovery road, it has always surprised me at how things have continually changed, and each time I think, "Things can't get any better than this...but they do!"

I need to remember what I use to say to sponsees many year ago when I was giving them a pin or a key tag, "This is one day at a time program, those days add up, and the next time you find yourself up in front celebrating an anniversary, ask yourself 'Has this year been the best year of my life,' and if it isn't, ask yourself, 'What didn't I do?"

Life happens, sadness, sorrow, grief, hurts and pains, yet we don't have to pick up; because they are in our life. We can take them to our Higher Power and He/She will see us through them. I may have many excuses but no reason to pick up as long as I remain grateful, to my God, to the program, to the fellowship, and to family and friends like you. We don't have to do it alone.

They say that we change when the pain of staying the same is greater than taking the Steps to change. Why do we wait so long? We do we have so little worth and value for ourselves that we continue to abuse ourselves and allow others to abuse us?

DO NOT KEEP SILENT

Some of our most trying difficulties are caused by plain old inertia. Inertia shows itself in not wanting to move, not wanting to act - in other words, in wanting to be a stone just lying on the road. It is all right for a stone to be inert; that is its role in life. But it is not all right for you and me to just lie down and try to avoid problems, saying, "What does it matter?"

When this phrase is heard "well adjusted," It is not always taken as a favorable comment. Mahatma Gandhi has said that to be well adjusted in a wrong situation is very bad; in a wrong situation we should keep on acting to set it right. When Gandhi, at the peak of his political activity, was asked in a British court what his profession was, he said, "Resister." If he was put in a wrong situation, he just could not keep quiet; he had to resist, nonviolently but very effectively, until the situation was set right. One of the things that I found helpful is sharing with others, then I could hear myself, where I was at, and if things were not right, I knew to change them.

When I don't do, it means I am down and not up for the occasion. I need to pray and ask for what I need to do what I need to do for myself. Other times, I use other things to distract me so I don't have to think about it. I can turn a blind eye and a deaf ear, especially if I focus on other things like relationships, shopping, work, church, and OP's problems instead of looking at my own.

I can't, God can, Just for today, I choose to let Him.

We go through cycles every 7 years according to Native teachings. There are 7 directions, East, South, West, North, Above, Below and Within. We also have a feminine and masculine side. We go through shifts and change whether we realize or not. Where are we in the cycle of change. Within each cycle, there is another cycle.
