Hello and Welcome Ross
Major Congrats on that 2 years clean and sober!
My daughter used meth off and on for years and has not used it in over 10 years.... Today, her memory is sharp as a tack, in fact her memory is much better than mine. (and I have never used) Never noticed her having memory problems, just remember the paranoia while she was using.
I'm glad you found us and hope you'll keep coming back... there is a on-line meeting tonight, feel free to join us!
Peace on the journey, SG

Dear Sunnygirl. For me it seems that my short memory is very poor. I can start reading an article, go to the next page and totaly forgetting what was written in previous. It is really frustrating. I hope my memory will get better after time. Could I know how many years your daughter was using meth? And did she suffer of poor short term and long term memory in the beginning years of abstinance? SunnyGirl, thank you very much for your answers

Hi Ross... I called my daughter after reading your post and we talked about "short term" memory loss.... She shot up with Meth (and/or Cocaine) off and on for more than 15 years.... when her veins were shot she smoked it. She has no memory of memory loss looking back on it now. She considers herself clean and has not used any drug other than marijuana. (has a prescription for it) Her life has changed dramatically, she went back to school and has her bachelors degree in sociology and is a productive & intelligent person today. She is not in 12-step recovery, but she has healed her spirit and sould with God's help. She feels your pain and asked me to tell you that you are in her prayers. She said each day, each year just keeps getting better! Peace on the journey, SG

Found this on-line and wanted to share it with you....
From what I've read your problem is not unique, many meth users have experienced your same symptoms. It kinda sounds like the trick is finding ways to live with it. It does get better. And you can do stuff like make lists, write notes to yourself, etc., whatever works for you.
Your brain has to learn new pathways to store information, and while using detours.... sometimes information gets lost in transit. It does SLOWLY get better with clean time. ODAT my friend!
Peace on the journey, SG

Dear all thank you very much for your answers And especially for your support! Are there any other people who suffered from short and long term memory after quitting meth use. And how long time does it take to get memory to normal level?

I have had some brain damage as a result of drug use. I find that the more I put my brain to use the faster it recovers. Here is a few methods I found help. Using a spongee type of ball or soft toy to squeeze while talking or reading helped. I started memorizing small familiar recovery phrases. Even responding to message boards are a way to use the brain to help. Doing crossword or other types of puzzles. Using the brain to do small tasks that require some thinking help your brain to learn new paths. I hope this helps.

Never used Meth or Cocaine, and a lot of my memory loss I contributed to Fibromyalgia. I was diagnosed with it about 2 years clean and sober. I can still have memory issues when it comes to some things and yet thanks to the program, I went back to playing bridge. I joined a club and was able to participate in tournaments. Bridge is a game that I needed my memory for and there was a time for about 6 years that I had problems with reading. I remember one book, "I read the preface and first chapter about six times and gave up on it. It was small print, and had to accept that I needed the larger print.
I can't remember the time lines as to when things happened, but there have been many 'mini' miracles in my life. May I suggest that you surrender it to your Higher Power, and ask for the healing of your memory. I had to ask for my sense of humor to be healed, along with clarity, inner knowing and perception.
Wishing you another 24 hours.
