U is for Up. Sit up and take notice. What is happening in your world in today. What ever goes out comes around. Sometimes what goes up must come down, especially if it is not nurtured, fed, loved, and encouraged. Sometimes we can't see the forest for the trees, and we think when in fact we are F.I.N.E. and instead of looking up or down, we need to look within.

W is for Will - Step 3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him. Step 11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out. Willing - Willing to believe in a Power greater than myself. BB, p. 12 If you have decided you want what we have and are willing to go to any length to get it -- then you are ready to take certain steps. BB, p. 58 Willing to grow along spiritual lines. BB, p. 60 Willing to make amends. BB, p. 76 Willing to place spiritual growth first. 12x12, p. 114 Willing to take advice and accept direction. 12x12, p. 59

X is for Xray. Take a look at what is inside. We heal from the inside out. What is on the surface is rooted in the past and our bodies carry memories as well as our minds. Y is for You. Without you, there is no me. This is a we program, and together we can do what I can't do alone. Take care of you, top yourself up, and only give away the overflow. Z is for Zero. When our score card read zero, we turned to AA or to another fellowship to heal from our dis-ease and addiction.

A is for Aware. You need to be aware in order to change something. When we take a 4th Step, we find out what is there good or bad, we can see what needs to be changes, worked on or nurtured it.

C is for Control. Control is the nature of our disease. I can't cure it, didn't cause it, and can't control it. Control is an illusion. That is why I need Step 3, I had to make a decision to put my disease and my life under my God's Care.

F is for Faith. Walking in faith, knowing my God is near, makes for a life of peace and serenity. Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

H is for Honesty. I can honestly say that I like Lin's gratitude. The hardest part was finding self-honesty. No one lied to me more than I did to myself. I had to get honest with myself, my God, and then I could be honest with others.

I is for Instant. This program is not a quick fix. There is no instant recovery and we have to work for it one day at a time. I didn't get this way overnight, it will take a few 24 hours to make things better.

J is for Judgment. It is a defect of character. Only my God and your God are qualified to do so. When I finds myself judging, I remind myself of the slogan, "Let It Begin With Me." Recovery is about the joy of living, with my focus off my A, and look at my own life.

L is for Last. I can't last in this program if I don't do the do things that were suggested to me: Go to meetings, get a sponsor, get a home group, get active learning to apply the principles of the Steps to your life, listen to learn, learn to listen, get active in service in your home group, in other groups, share your esh, and do service in the Community. If I am the last one at the meeting and the first one out the door after the meeting, that doesn't give me much time to listen and learn. It is a 24 hour a day program, not a 2-4 day program with recovery the last thing on your list.

P is for People. This disease is no respecter of persons. It affects people from all walks of life, rich or poor, no matter what their race, colour and creed is. It is a spiritual program that welcomes all and works for all, who or whatever your God may be.
