Hi--My name is Kelly and I just came across this site a few days ago and today I joined.I have been reading all of the posts and now I do not feel so alone but I am new to this.My brother Mike, will be spending the rest of his life in the state penitentary due to several grand jury indictments handed down in Jan. of this year.At that time I went into my usual mode that I have been in for the past 20 years of trying to help him, save him,and protect him.But this time things are out of my hands and I am powerless with the judicial system.I realize now that I am a big time enabler.I am unable to attend the Nar-Anon meetings in my town because I do not have a sitter and also I do not have transportation.Due to being on a limited income and not having medical insurance and having to pay for all the meds that I and my family have to take I am unable to purchase any of the books or materials that I want to read. So,I am hoping that this website can help me.If anybody has any advice for me or other sites that may help I am open to anything. Are there any Nar-Anon online meetings or maybe Alanon?I need so much guidance and help.I hope to hear from anybody and everybody asap

Welcome to EOR! The friday night alanon meeting is at 8 PM eastern , 7 central and 5 pacific. I chair that meetiing. I also chair ACOA on Sunday nigth. It might not give yout he exact same perspective, but it's another way of dealing with the way the addictions of others ahve effected us.
May i suggest getting some books at the public library? That might be a start. The daily readers for alanon are wonderful. I'm not sure if the library carries them or not, but they do have books on co-dependency. If you see you are an enabler, that might be a place to start that you can afford. Teh daily readers for alanon are Courage to change, hope for today and one day at a time. They MIGHT have them. Melody beattie wtites alot fo good stuff too.
please DO check out our two meetings. We used to ahve a Naranon on Thursday, but it has changed to a step meting and it is trying to get off the ground rightnow.
the main home page has the link to two chatrooms. the meetings are in the sigma chat room. Tonigth we will be having open chat . I'm on my way in a few minutes.
Sorry to hear your brother is in the pen. They ahve a saying...people who are addicted either stop using and get clean and sober, end up encarcerated in a jail or hospital or die. Three choices and only one of those is good.
He's finally got to take responsibility for his actions. YOU can now devote your energy to being the best mom you can be to your kids and you can learn to let go of the need to be responsible for another's actions. Alanon can help you do that.
WELCOME!
LIN

Welcome to the site Kelly. I have a son in active addiction. It can be difficult and knowing when to stop being the mother, or any other role that I feel like I need to play when dealing with other people's addiction. Perhaps I feel this way because I am a recovering addict myself who was addicted to prescription pills as a result of dealing with my pain and to alcohol which I used to drown my sorrows. I played many roles myself trying to escape my own reality.
