Only God can turn a mess into a message!
I talked to my younger sister (qualifier) today and I can truly say our relationship has been growing and improving. I'd like to take credit for some of the changes I've seen, but I know only God can do that.
I have been discussing my recovery with her and I think she's been trying to use some of it in her own life. She very badly needs to get out of the apartment she's been in, she has no elevator and can't even take her walker with her as she can't carry it down the 3 flights of stairs. I told her where she moves is her decision, just that she need to get on the 1st floor somewhere. She's trying to figure out how and when she can get her son to help move her and even find an apartment this works for her.
We also talked about worry and the serenity prayer. Her life has been such a mess for the last few years but I think she can almost see the light. If she can make some changes, then go for it, but if she can't she need to give it to God.
It was a good conversation..... a good beginning!
Peace on the journey, SG

I just saw this. Don't know how I missed it. I absolutely loved the title...about turning a mess into a message.
I have heard many AA friend say they try to remember that they may be the only Big Book that another person ever sees...so they want to be the best example they can be. I can see hgow your message would be very helpful to your sis.
Thanks for the post! LIN

I've heard that one from AA as well, good reminder Lin! Just as an update, Friday sis and her son went to look at an apartment in a senior complex. They liked it so much they put a deposit up and she will be moved in by April 4th. She's on the second floor, but the good news is... they have an elevator and laundry room not far from her apartment. She called me yesterday, worried that she might have rushed in to it.... I suggested she take a deep breath and tell me all the things she liked the most about it. By the time she got done with it she forgot about what she was worried about. Told her it's a trick I use to keep my focus on the positives in life.... count your blessings, not your troubles! Hugs to all.... SG

So true. Focus on the positive and not the negatives and we are happier.

We can learn from our past. We can see what worked and what didn't work. Just because something worked in the past, doesn't mean it will continue to work in today. Life is forever changing. I think it is called growth, although we can slip back into old behaviours and patterns. I have found that my Higher Power leads me to where I need to be and will continue to bring me back until I have got the message that I need to learn.
Sometimes a messenger is sent to show you how to clean up the mess, but we don't like the messenger, so we ignore it. Often the same messenger is sent back and in other cases a new messenger may be sent. This one can be good or not so good (in our opinion), and it us to see, I think they call it a spiritual awakening. It is up to us to be open to receive.

Like the title. I can sure make a medd of thing. There are always lessons to learn. I can learn from others if I keep an open mind and willing to learn.
