Dear Family,
I am fearful of being hopeful. My son announced last week that he was going to go into recovery.
He gave notice at his job and according to him when he came by to visit yesterday, he is going to detox next weekend.
Please keep us both in your prayers. It is so hard to detach and stay out of his way. It is much easier when I remember that he has his own Higher Power, and it certainly isn't me.

courage-the choice that will fulfill the best of who you are
Courage Where does courage come from? What brings courage to life? Courage is the commitment to do what you know is right. Courage arises when your integrity will not allow any other choice.
Courage comes from following a purpose that goes beyond your own petty concerns. Because of that, courage gives far-reaching power and consequence to your actions.
In the short term, courage can often appear foolish. In the long run, courage has the power to move the whole world in a positive direction.
Courage asks much of you, yet it is not complicated and is always within your reach. Courage is truth put into action.
In every moment, courage is there for you to choose. In every moment, courage is the choice that will fulfill the best of who you are.

Thanks Max for the post on Courage. I really believe in faith, courage and lots of hope in recovery. Caressa, I am sure you are fearful of his trying to get into recovery, that is where faith and hope comes in to help ride that fear out. You have first hand knowing on how recovery works, if he is really serious about it, he will make it work. It does go both ways. I will pray taht it works out for him, tell him to be strong, and turn his will over to his HP and let the rest follow. Peace and hugs...

Thanks for the post Max. My Al-Anon book Courage to Change has brought a lot of comfort to me over the years. The NA group that I use to belong to was called "Courage to Change."
I was at my Al-Anon home group today and chaired the meeting. We do topic, step, tradition in rotation and today's was Topic. We use the alphabet, like the ABC of recovery that I started on this site. Today is was "H" and I shared on hope and honesty.

Prayers are answered. He went from detox, to a safe house to a treatment facility. He is just ending his second week and is coming to visit on the weekend.
He has found it to be rough, mainly to open up and share. I said, "Guess it's time for change." He said, "Mom, I've been that way all of my life, why the heck do you think I am here?"
One day at a time, we can get better if we are honest, openminded and willing.

Be sure you tell your son that he has lots of angels and of course the HP watching over him keeping hiim strong and on the right path. OF course working on himself by being able to share, being open with his feelings helps too.

That fear has turned to faith. A proud mother whose son has 8 Months clean. He didn't make it the first time, but he kept coming back.
