:-/during recovery it is normal to experience cravings or desires to use substances.
these may occur anytime during recovery, but happen more often during the first few weeks and month of recovery. how often and how strong these are varies from person to person.
it is important to be aware of your cravings or desirers to use alcohol or drugs. sometimes the sight or smell of your drug of choice set off cravings. finding an old pipe or coke sthingy may trigger desirers too.
think about the phsical signs, tightness in your stomach, feeling nervous, or upset, mental signs; thought of getting high, restlessness, of your urges,,
think of a couplt of recent times when you have had cravings or desires to use chemicals and answer the questions.
that triggers these desirers?----------------------------
what were your physical signs?------------------------
what were your mental or psychological signs?------
------------------------------------------------------------.
these are important issues, living with your cravings or desires without giving in to them and losing you sobriety./
remember that desires are normal and usually decrease as you continue recovery.
other recovering teens have dealt with desires to use in a number of ways . these include the following.
1. get help from others..
a. talk to someone face to face, or call on the phone, family members, friends, aa/or na sponsor or members, ministers, counselor, ect,
always get phone numbers and keep them ......
b. get to an aa or/ na meeting and share your cravings or desires with others, ask others what they do to surving cravings..
c. if in professional counseling, request an appointment ,,if you are worried about giving in to your cravings or desires to get high.
2.
rediect your activity;;;
get involved in other things today.
play sports , walk, go to the gym,
redirect your energies and the desires do pass...
3. change your thoughts;
tell your self you will put off using until tomorrow, by when the desireswill probably be gone.
think out all the bad that happened when you did use ,, and look to your center for the good of not using now...
think of how you will feel tomorrow if you get through this desire without using today.
think of all the positive benefits to sobriety.
think positive i am not using today..
repeat slogans that we use in recovery.
one day at a time.
not dead yet ,do to recovery, ect.
block thoughts of using by thinking about the consequences of returning to substance use...
and one who can tell us about how or what they do to get throw these times.
one things we can all relate to is the cravings,,,
now lets share what we do to stop them and work our recovery,
recovery works, when we work it....
