A is for Alert. Always be alert, our disease goes into remission, one day at a time as I work my program. It is applicable to all part of my dis-ease, which is always awaiting for the moment, that I forget, and allow a space for it to creep back into my life. I am so grateful that this program is one day at a time.

B is for Bounty. We reap a bountiful harvest as a result of being in recovery. We start to get back, in some cases what we lost; but most of all, we get back ourselves. We have money for food, rent, and self-care.

C is for Choice. I am granted freedom of Choice. I can choose recovery or I can choose to go back to my old way of living. The nice thing about choice is that once I make a choice, I can always choose again.

E is for Everything. I was told that I had to change 'everything' because who and what I was before, was what brought me to the doors of recovery and would take me back out if I didn't deal with it. I had to leave everything from my past to make room for a new future.

F is for Fall. Don't fall for the voice of your disease that tells you that you are just F.I.N.E. Fine means Frustrated, Insecure, Neurotic, and Emotional. What do you mean I am angry? I normally look this way! Actually, I am not fine! I am fuming!

G is for Growth. We grow in the program by continually working and applying the Steps to our lives. As we heal and become more honest with ourselves our perception changes and our outlook changes, and we can go back and open ourselves to a deeper healing and new awareness. As I grow closer to my God, I am more willing to accept what He reveals to me.

J is for Jump. Don't jump over the step. Jump right into working the steps to the best of your ability. As you detox and your mind clears and your body detoxes, you are able to have a better understanding of yourself and what God Plan is for you.

K is for Kick. It isn't about kicking a habit. It is about finding a spiritual solution to the disease of addiction. An allergy of the body and an obsessive/compulsive disorder that affects that takes over our mind. We are not our disease. We have daily reprieve, one day at a time. Keep coming back.

L is for Lost. I wandered lost and alone for many years. I didn`t know there was a way back. I lost hope and then I was given a glimmer of it and I followed the light home.

M is for Moment. We say a day at a time, but often it is moment by moment when we are tempted. Self-justification can lead us back into old ways of thinking, which in turn takes us back to actions, which takes us out of today. Justification and rationalization doesn`t make it right.

N is for New. Each day is a new beginning. Yesterday is gone. Even most of today, is no longer here. If I face each day as a newcomer, I am open to new things and new awareness.

O is for Out. What is your outlook about recovery and yourself? Use the tools of the program to overcome the obstacles in your path. We no longer look outside of ourselves for happiness and fulfillment, we go within. www.whats-your-sign.com/animal-symbolism-otter.html

Q is for Quit. Quit making excuses. Remember to be grateful. A grateful alcoholic/addict will never have a reason to pick up. Quit picking up other things as a substitute for your drug of choice, a drug is a drug.

R is for Relapse. We can lapse back into old thinking which can take us back into old actions and lead us into old behaviours that lead us into habits and actions that seem comfortable, because they have been ingrained in us for so many years. We can recognize the thinking and take it to our Higher Power before it becomes action.

S is for Sobriety. Sobriety means soundness of mind. I can be sober and put the plug in the jug, but to get true sobriety, I need to apply the 12 Steps to my life to work on my emotional and spiritual aspects of my disease.

T is for Trust. Trust in the process. Recovery isn't a quick fix program. Remember progress, not perfection. We didn't get this way overnight, we don't get better overnight. It takes time! One day at a time.
