Looks like I missed out on some Serenity along the way. S is for Serenity. Finding peace of mind, not always easy. At first, I didn't know what it was and I was sharing with my spiritual adviser, and he said, "Perhaps what you are feeling is serenity." I had told him that I had been feeling weird all day and I didn't know what it was. It was an unknown feeling and I was new in recovery and it was difficult to put a name on all these new feelings.

V is for Very Angry. Have hoped that my picture glitches were temporary, but it looks like the site is down or they are taking exception to me using their pictures. They seem to be for viewing only and when you click on a picture you get a blank box. It looks like I am going to have to look for a new picture for my signature. Maybe it is time to give up my mouse, which meant scrutiny, and look for a new message that I need in today. I have gone to other sites, but it has been a constant for many years.

W is for Welcome. Everyone is welcome. I went to AA because I was in denial about my alcoholism. I went there for almost 2 years not believing the words I said, "Hi, my name is JoAnne, and I am an alcoholic." I would feel guilty and I would say, "Alcoholic/Addict." I knew I was an addict. By going to meetings eventually the mind caught up with the body, and I knew that I was an alcoholic. I used alcohol like I used people, places, and things in my life. Alcohol was one of those things. They made me welcome by saying, "Keep coming back." I came to believe, "Keep coming so you don't have to come back."

X is for 'Xtra. When life gets chaotic and my head gets busy, I know it is a good time to do 'xtra meetings. When I am coming up to an anniversary, I do 'xtra meetings to remind myself that I didn't get there alone and try to touch base with the people helped me get to where I am in today. I like to give 'xtra strokes for very special folks. When you don't feel like going to a meeting, run don't walk.

Y is for Yellow. Yellow is a sign for caution. You may be the only Big Book someone sees. When they look at you, do they see recovery???

Z is for Zero. As they say in AA, when our score card read zero, we reached out and asked for help. AA was the last house on the block. Even mental institutions seemed preferable to admitting we were an alcoholic. Alcohol is a drug. Heaven forbid! Not wanting to compute that, after all Jesus turned the water into wine. That justified everything, forgetting that we don't metabolize alcohol the way normal people can.
