I try real hard to wear clothes that match and cover my surgery scars and my bald head. I think that is a good kind of pride to look as best as you can. I went to a going away party for the chairman of our Tues 7pm meeting. I wore a yellow sundress with white hat & white sandals. I had a huge pair of earrings that were the disk that you put in an 45 record. Most knew what they were and laughed and said Wow! what a flash back! A few young guys had no clue what they were and I had to get humble and explain about a 45 record had to have a disk that you put in the hole of the record so it could be played on a record player. They were bright yellow and matched my sundress. The one guy had to be explained what a record player was! I was humble and felt like a dinosaur! I did feel pride & humility both that my earrings were such a conversation starter!!! I got them as a "gag gift" for a get well present and they really were a fun part of the party........Bunnypie

How cute. My holes grew back in, so I can't wear earing in today. I may get them done again, but have my doubts. I can't wear them very long because of an allergic reaction to the material. My son gave me a watch and I had it on for most of the day, and my wrist where the back of the watch touched my skin start to burn and itch. Humility says that I must be teachable. Sometimes I find myself bending rules and overlooking things that I know, but choose to ignore in the moment. Pride as they say, generally goes before a fall. I must never forget where I came from, who got me to the doors, has allowed me to stay here. I can't take pride in MY accomplishments, this is a WE program.

Hey Jo----I have sensitive skin to cheap metal and brake out in a red rash so what I do is get clear nail polish and paint the back of a watch where it would touch my skin. I try to get hypo-allergic earrings so my ears won't get bothered but if I can't I paint the hook part that goes thru the ear with clear nail polish and that seems to take care of it. It is a pain in the A$$ to have to do that but it works for a long time and saves allergic problems-----Bunnypie has some tricks!!!!!

Even the hypi-allergic bother me if I wear them for a long time, or maybe they were not that type, because I generally buy cheap; although I did have a pair that was yellow amber that I paid $40. for. I loved earring and I liked them dangling, when I was new in recovery. It was vanity and pride that made me feel good and I liked to make them jingle. You can get a lot of jingle with the right attitude and a good pair of earrings. Trying to make the outside look good to cover up how I felt in the inside. It took a while before the inside and outside matched.
