I know this mentions clean and sober. As an adult child, I figured if you can't beat them join them. I became my father's drinking buddy, in other words, I drank his booze. At the end of my marriage, I had to drink too or I couldn't stand being around my ex-husband. In today, I recognize it as my stuff and I can't play the blame game.

Clean and sober doesn't mean just alcohol. We often vow we will never touch alcohol because of what it did to a loved one. What we can do is find our own addiction. Often it is gambling, work, food, prescription drugs, and/or other mind altering substances, and they make us sick in our own right. It isn't the substance, it is but a symptom of my dis-ease, the problem is me. Problems we can stay stuck in. Challenges we can overcome.
