It was "Thanksgiving Day" . As usual, I was in the corner bar drinking.
I remember saying to the bartender "I shouldn't be drinking, Im an alcoholic". He replied "So am I" as he drank. Just then a voice came from down the end of the bar which stated "I just got out of 11th and Taylor" which was a dry-out joint.
I can still rember my question "then why are we drinking?"
No one had an answer...........but a miraculous seed was planted in me after all those years of slipping in and out of AA.
That was my last day of drinking - it was Nov. 25th, 1976.
Today is Nov, 26th, 2003 and I am celebrating 27 years of un-interupted sobriety.
My thanks to God, my sponsor, my sober wife and all the people like you guys and girls whom I have met on this "Journey Of Sobriety".
It was like walking a path throuh a forest, stumbling over rocks, on occasions bumping into trees and other times just sprinting along.
As I'm now in the autumn of my years, I can now see the whole forest..........and it's beautiful.........and what a great trip to get here!
Happy Thanksgiving!
