Sharing Father's Love Letter With Our Cleaning Lady
October 2003
October 11, 2003 was the day it happened. I flew to Toronto, Canada to attend the "Catch The Fire" conference at the Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship on October 7th. It was my second day upon arriving that I purchased a poster of the Father's Love Letter. I brought it back to my hotel room and tucked it away in my suitcase for safe keeping.
I stayed with four other ladies in the room. Proudly I brought out the "Love Letter" to share. I said to one of them, I'm going to leave this on my bed. Maybe the cleaning lady may read it. And left it at that. It's now Saturday morning. I leave to go downstairs with my coffee in hand. There is a black lady in the hall with her cart full of fresh towels among other items and she's singing. I did indeed hear the words she sang then asked her "what was that you were singing?" Her name is 'Mary'. Mary said I am singing about the blood of Jesus. My hand went up in the air as praise to the Lord and I said "thank you Jesus!".
She had the biggest most beautiful smile and spoke of her awesome Father God and all His goodness. A lot was said in just minutes. Here husband had left her and she has four children. I'm not totally sure about their ages - 18, 16, 13 & 11, I think. I said goodbye, got on the elevator, and went downstairs. I returned to my room about 15 minutes later. The Holy Spirit led me to then give her the note card form of Father's Love Letter. He also gave me a word for her. So inside I wrote that her voice would lead others to Christ as it will open doors for her to share. I also copied down Ephesians 3:14-21 …that she would know the width, length, height and depth of His love for her.
She was just cleaning one room away from ours. I gave her a hug and told her I loved her, and hoped to see her again, all the while passing her the "Father's Love Letter". Well the time was getting late. Two other ladies and I were just getting ready to leave for church. I was in the bathroom brushing my teeth. There's a knock at the door. A voice of despair asks for the lady who gave her the card. It's Mary. As I was coming to the door, she comes in as her arms reach out. She is sobbing.
I hold her and kiss her face and ask "what's the matter baby girl?" as all she can say between sobbing - "Thank you Father God, Oh Thank You Father God, Oh Father God you are so good. As the sobs calmed just a bit, she said something to me. I had obviously misunderstood what she said through her weeping. I then almost froze with shock when I asked her to say again what she said. Mary said "I was going to commit suicide". After some moments, we sat her on the couch and she calmed down.
She said a few days ago she had cleaned our room and saw the Father's Love Letter on the bed. She had to have it. It took her half an hour to copy it down. She just had to have it. Through her sobs earlier, she had said "you don't know how hard its been, my husband left and took everything, my cupboards are bare." She just couldn't take it anymore. But the Father's Love Letter was confirmation for her to go on.
And the Lord was so good, one lady gave her $50., the other $100. All I had to give her was an apple. And we prayed for her. Mary was going to bring Jesus glory to the very end. The awesome thing is she is still with us to bring Him glory.
How mightily God works! I think it is important to give detail. On that note, when I booked my plane ticket in August, I had an invitation to book a hotel room with three other women. I kindly accepted. That night, the Lord woke me. He told me I was not to stay with the invitation. I didn't know what His plans were, he didn't tell me. So I went ahead and booked a hotel room elsewhere. Alone. I also had to cancel those reservations as His leading was for me to stay with these other group of wonderful friends. Which He knew was far more feasible as I would have had to round up three other gals for economical reasons when I booked previously.
So, be so encouraged. How many more Marys are out there that haven't told you what our Daddy's Love Letter had done for them. Glory to God! But I hope you are blessed with great encouragement. I know nothing about you, except at the bottom of the letter is says written by Barry Adams. Thank you for being so faithful. One day you will truly know how many lives have been healed, mended and even saved from death because God used you so mightily. Thank you. If not for you and your obedience to the Lord's leading, there could have been another four children without a mother, and one less Mary.
Bless you
