Message Board Rules and Safety
Essence Of Recovery (EOR) is a privately-owned internet recovery site dedicated to the 12-step programs. We at EOR strive to provide you with a safe, positive, helpful, recovery-based message boards.
Our safety features include secure registration requiring a valid email address, Word watch to filter offensive terminology, message boards monitoring, and banning of message board users who violate the rules.
You, the message board user, are also responsible for your own safety while accessing our message boards:
1. Do not register with your real name or use your real name in your email address, and do not give out your real name.
2. Do not give out personal information--such as your telephone number, address, or place of business.
3. Do not share your password with other users.
4. If you do not want others to see your email address, be sure to block it from view in your profile.
5. Do not assume that anything anyone says on a message board is the truth, and be especially wary of anyone who wants to meet you in person. Always ask yourself why?
Cybersex, using excessive profanity, abusiveness, stalking, and/or harassing other users is not allowed on our message boards. Anyone engaging in such behavior will be banned without further notice.
Freedom of Speech Occasionally an uninformed chat-room user (usually one who has violated the chat-room rules and been banned) wishes to "make a stand" and threaten lawsuits over First Amendment rights to freedom of speech. The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution reads as follows: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." Freedom of speech is a constitutional right in the framework of government versus citizens. The right to freedom of speech does not apply in someone's business, home, etc. In other words, your right to free speech ends at our front door. When you're in our home, you follow our rules. If you are banned for violating our rules and actually have the moxie to walk into an attorney's office to try to begin a First Amendment lawsuit, please be sure to invite us along. We are not a glum lot and always enjoy a good laugh. Message Boards:Essence Of Recovery is a recovery web site, and our message boards are provided for recovery support, recovery messaging, online recovery meeting lists, and helping the newcomer. Anyone caught using the EOR message boards for cyber sex, dating service, stocking, or any kind of abuse, will be promptly banned. Thank you, Max- Webmaster EOR

By: Kathleen M. (Webmaster EOR 6/2003) January 23, 1993 I wanted to give away what has been so freely given to me, so I chose to start this web site in hopes, that I could help pass the word that 12 step of Recovery Works. Today I am 21 years sober, I do the foot work, and try hard to stay out of Gods way, so he can work through me, his wonderful plan for myself and others. ============================================== By: Max January 21, 2009 A newcomer is trying to escape their chaos and will never be Interested in another dysfunction. REMEMBER WE ATTRACT WHAT WE ARE! I think we can accommodate each one of us and when we understand the needs of one another then it will be a lot easier to move back into a healthy functionality at EOR. ============================================== At EOR there are NO LIMITS on how many posts a member may make. At EOR there are NO LIMITS placed on the number of cut and paste items in a members posts. Please remember, as with any good thing, less is more. The only posted policy on cut and paste will be removed by MAX, with the following understanding. - A section will be provided for daily readings, it should be
used for all 12-step recovery groups. [cut & paste zone]
- There is a section provided for jokes and humor, it should be
placed there. [cut & paste zone]
- There will be a specific section for poems and prayers
[cut & paste zone
All of these should be considered “tools of our recovery” They are located in the “Recovery Corner”! Let's please keep the rest of the board for personal sharing of recovery.
Always remember this is a Recovery Site! We come here to share our recovery, in good times and in bad. Please don’t take other member’s inventory or be overly critical of their posts. I don’t believe we can understand another person’s life situation well enough to judge and criticize their motives. Also, when we are aware that others are uncomfortable with something we are or are not doing, be willing to listen. Take into consideration that your "great idea" may not feel that way to others....
The only rule this site needs: BE CARING AND CONSIDERATE OF ALL MEMBERS!
Peace on the journey, SunnyGirl

Principles before Personalities.... To me this means our recovery comes first! We cannot change people, places or things. All we can change is ourselves. At EOR or at a F2F meeting we shouldn’t let others offend us. Take what you need and leave the rest.Sometimes our own personalities won't allow us to help everyone. Even though we all try to practice the principles, we are all human and are going to make mistakes. I know for me I used to take everything personally. Today I try a little harder to reason things out and make concessions for those I don't agree with. Can we entertain the thought that we just might be wrong.... And if I am wrong, I will I promptly admit it! Just for clarification: THE PRINCIPLES ARE THE STEPS[li] HONESTY [/li][li] HOPE [/li][li] FAITH [/li][li]COURAGE [/li][li]INTEGRITY [/li][li]WILLINGNESS [/li][li]HUMILITY [/li][li]BROTHERLY/SISTERLY LOVE [/li][li]JUSTICE [/li][li]PERSEVERANCE [/li][li]SPIRITUAL AWAKENING [/li][li]SERVICE[/li][/ul] Using these principles at EOR and in our daily lives should be our goal. And today is the first day of the rest of my life..... Peace on the journey, SunnyGirl
