I can remember the fear in early recovery when my sponsor to take a risk and move into a new direction. Fear of failure always prevented me before, along with people pleasing and expectations. Not only take on that of others, but setting high ones for myself. Generally so high, they were unattainable, but I could never see that. Certainly ones that were out of reach at the moment, and being the good addict, I wanted everything yesterday, so when it didn't happen, it was a good reason to use. Since then, I embrace change and often that can not be accomplished unless I take a risk. By letting go of the old and the familiar and moving into a new direction, my life has become very rich and very blessed, but most of all, I have grown as a person, and my relationship with my Higher Power has brought about faith and trust that I never had before. Taking a risk and making new tapes to replace the old has to be one of the greatest steps we can take in recovery.
