Hope for Today
I think taking Step Three, "Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him," is as much an attitude as it is an action. My attitude can influence my progress with the rest of the Steps. A student-and-classroom analogy helps explain my perspective. I believe God has put me here to learn certain spiritual lessons. I have choices. I can skip my homework, stay out all night, sleep through the alarm, miss breakfast, get to school late, and doze through class-in which case I will miss out on many of my lessons and have to keep repeating them.
On the other hand, I can do my homework, get a full night's sleep, wake up on time, eat breakfast, get to school early, and apply myself in my classes. If I do this, I will make progress, even during those occasional setbacks, which are bound to happen. I've learned that I become teachable when I surrender. In surrendering I am emboldened to act on my Step Three decision by taking Steps Four through Twelve. I'm heartened to know I will take with me a loving God to guide me through the spiritual lessons I need to learn.
