This is in refference to what Kelly wrote. First of all I want to welcome you to EOR. Hope you enjoy and learn from the site.
Sorry to hear about your brother. Just a little info about me so you might have some idea as to where I am coming from. I am a recoving alki and have been in the program for 21 years. I was not a drug user so don't know much about drugs. I do believe that there is some difference.
I am not going to address if your brother got what he deserves. But I am glad that someone didn't get what they didn't deserve. One thing I have always been grateful is that I never killed anyone when I was rinking. Whent I drank I drove and when I drove I really drove. I loved fast cars and loved to drive them as such. I honestly have no idea how many cars I have totalled out. I am truelly grateful that no one got what they didn't deserve. To often the drunk or addict hits and kills or seriously injures someone that doesn't deserve it. Other than jail is there a way to stop some practicing user's. Not that I know of. Hell, I use to brag that I could drive better drunk than the rest of you could sober. Now the cops that arrested me would say different as would most that rode with me. Taking my license never stopped me. I think I can safely say that I have put on a 1/4 million miles or better with no drivers license. Like I tell them in AA when they come to the meetings to get their card signed so they can get their license back. You don't need a license to drive. You only need the license when they stop you and ask for it ;D I was stopped more than once with no license and talked my way out of a ticket.
What I hope you learn is that the only one you can change is the one in the mirror. Doesn't mean we can't love others and want the best for them.
Happy Easter to you and yours.
Ron
