For me, posting on this site is not easy. I love the idea and think it could be an excellent recovery tool, but it's not very "user friendly". For example, why aren't the responses listed from most recent at the top of the thread? And why isn't it possible to respond to just one post instead of the whole tread? If you look at the list of members, there's a large number that have never posted, or posted only 1 or 2 times. I'm sure there's a number of reasons; but, it seems like people are giving up and not participating, perhaps out of frustration. My suggestion: narrow the forums to 3 or 4 and let people start there own threads / topics within. When the threads have better continuity, then, a member can just use the search field, read that information and not have to restart another thread on the same topic (then, in effect, the tread can serve to answer FAQ's). Also, members can direct newcommers to certain threads. That can't be done uless the threads have a flow. I happen to be a triathlete, and was once on this board called "trinewbies". It's very active and very functional. Give it a look. Maybe there's some more ideas there: www.trinewbies.com/phorum2/category-view.asp

I'm not the moderator, but I can answer one of your questions. YOu asked why the most recent posts are not at the top of the page. OK...sometimes THEY ARE. But we used to have an option here called a "sticky" that the one in charge of the message boards could use. They could use the sticky to put a post that needed to stay at the top...at the top. After that the next ones are the most recent ones. so look for a different little symbol in front of the ones that are not most recent and you will see that little sticky note.
I hope that helps.

Thanks Lin, but I can't say I understood the whole sticky process. But, posting from the most recent was only a small part of my point.
My whole contention is that because of the way the site is set up, it's a deterent to anyone who's new, and that's why the board is slow, and might have something to do with why people visit, post 0 times (or once) and then leave. I know you've posted quite a bit on here, but I'm coming in with new eyes.
I was going to join the ranks of those who dissapear, but then I got the email about the new chat room.... maybe I'll give that a try.
Thanks again for responding though; it shows you care. You seem like a nice person. Maybe I'll "see you" in the chat room!
