A is for Awareness. I have been grated a lot of awareness and understanding about this disease. Having come from both sides of the fence, I can see how this is truly a family disease and affects all those around it.

F is for Faith. I found faith that this program would work for me in the rooms of recovery. If others could stay sober, I could too. If others could live with an alcoholic/addict, then I could learn to live a new way of life too. My fear turned to faith.

G is for Goodness. I had to find the goodness in me. In order to recognize that goodness, I found it reflected in the rooms of recovery by those who came before me.

N is for Need. When I get needy, I get greedy. Greed is not being happy with where I am at and not finding acceptance. God meets my needs. When I feel need, I need to put it out to the Universe. Perhaps I need to look at it and see if it is a desire for something that is not good for me and God has said, "No"!

P is for Polite. A little manners go a long way. It amazes me how people forget to say please and thank you in today. I was walking in the mall the other day and two people bumped into my walker. They did apologize though. I often think of how tunneled our vision is that we can't see those around us and give them some thought.

Q is for Quit. Quit questioning which came first, the chicken or the egg and just accept what is in the moment. Rationalization kept me sick for a long time.

R is for Rationalize. I can rationalize all I want, but I need to get completely honest with me. It wasn't about the alcoholic in my life. I had to accept responsibility for my own thoughts and actions. How many times I heard, "Look what you made me do?" I didn't know I didn't have the power to make anyone do anything. I had a lot of faults guilt. I rationalized everything like I had to have a reason for living. It was never okay to be me, I was suppose to be what everyone else wanted me to be.

T is for Thanksgiving. A time to be grateful for the blessing of the year. Although I give thanks to God for what I receive on a daily basis, family and thanksgiving is important to me. I love turkey and dressing and all the goodies. A grateful addict will never have a reason to pick up

U is for Understanding. It was important for me to understand my God. People for years had been telling me who God was, I had to learn who God was to me. I had to get to know God and make the relationship personal instead of listening to hearsay.
