F is for Fear. Face everything and recover. Or Flee everything and run. Fear and faith can't fill the same space.

F is for Faith. Faith unlocks the door. When I had faith in the program, I started to work the Steps and do what was suggested to me to stay clean and sober.

F is for Fun. I didn't think I could have fun without drinking. I found the more I stayed sober the crazier I got. A nice kind of crazy, not the insanity of when I was using.

G is for GROUP...my home GROUP is like a family I never had...they love me in spite of my imperfections, they hold me up until I am able to stand by myself...they enver judge me....they understand and support me. The GROUP is very important to my recovery.

G is for Grace. God's grace brought me here. I always thought that others were more deserving. I am glad it was extended to me.

H is Hope. Hope came when I walked through the doors of recovery. Hoping that what worked for others would work for me. The 12 Promises kept me coming back, I wanted what they promised, especially that first one. You will know a new a new freedom and a new happiness. Just that alone worked for me without all the rest. homepage.eircom.net/~recovery/promises.html

I is for Isolation. It is part of my disease. It blocks me from my God. My God speaks through Others. If I discount others and don't listen to the Good Orderly Direction my God sends every day, then I am the loser.

J is for Jealousy. There is no room for this in recovery. We each have our own gifts and abilities. What a boring world this would be if we were all alike. Our gifts are God given, and it is up to us to use them to their fullest. If I don't use my gifts, they may be taken away. I can remember saying to my sponsor in early recovery that I felt ugly. I had grown up feeling like I was ugly for most of my life. She said stop such nonsense, you are a very attractive woman. I found myself going back to some old pictures and deciding I wasn't so bad after all. A lot of my feelings stemmed from insecurities. I was depending on others. I looked to others to affirm me. As I was reminded, I was a child of God and He didn't make no junk.

J is "Just for today." Just for today, I choose to stay clean and sober. Just for today, I choose not to use. Just for today, I choose not to abuse myself or others. Just for today, I will not project into the future or drag along my past, because I miss out on being in the moment. I need to be in the moment to connect with my God.

J is for Joy. The joy of living one day at a time. It takes the stress out of things. We can enjoy today and focus on the now.
