generous/selfish?
I really consider myself a very generous person. I give of my time and talent and treasures to my jobs, my church, my freinds, family and my community. I serve well when appointed a task. I go beyond what is expected.
A couple of years ago my boss called me SELFISH. We had after school program in my classroom after school. They often played outdoors and when they could not find the PE equipment they wanted to use, they helped themselves to mine. The equipment in my room was pruchased by me, not by the school. My class was having a prayer day...it's a special all day thing with parents and you are in a church bulding across the parking lot instead of the school. I had bought a brand new kickball for the prayer day because all of them in school were flat. I had it in my PE equipment bucket 2 days...jsut for this occasion. I went to get it to put with my things to take over and it was gone. When my class got there I asked if they knew anytihing about our new ball athat i bought for our prayer day...nd they told me one of my students took it out at afterschool and it went over the fence into the yard with a big dog and we are not allowed to go after it. Ball gone. Needed it that day. I sent my boss an email and part was in capital letters would he PLEASE ask the afterschool not to bother my things. I didnt explain about the prayer day and why the ball was so important that day. He later called me selfish and said i was screaming at him in my email. he called me selfish.
When i am accused of soemthign I choose not to believe, I first think hard about the other person's feelings. Where are they coming from? what part of this accusation MIGht have an ounce of truth? I took ownership of the fact I wrote in caps so i probably was screaming at him in type. I was angry and tired of them borrowing thengs and nto returning them. Any other day the missing ball...new or not, woudl be no big deal. I had to change the activity we were diong because we had no ball. I had to accept that the afterschool was in my room and I'd have to learn to deal with them borrowing my things. I've not mentioned ever again when they 'borrowed" my things and lost them.
Are you selfish or generous?
