My Grandpa suggested I try to have "moral sobriety" He is old fashioned in the way he speaks and some times I am not sure what he means. I do think that to have morals is to have values and behave in a respectable way. This chip has always translated out to be sleazy and respectable in my way of speaking. Are you moral or are you immoral? Please let me know! Thanks-----Mistyeve

Morals or having a sence of right and wrong or moral values.Could moral sobriety be having morals and living sober? It is possible to be sober and be immoral. When I was drinking I was all about my own gratification, and I didnt really care whose wife,or girlfriend I was with it was all about me.Today I do not act that way,I have moral values,Iknow what Gods will is for me today.

Definitely not sleazy. I don't steal or lie or cheat on my husband. I try to treat others as i want to be treated.
Moral sobriety...really is an interesting concept. I bet it means SOMETIMES when a person is actively drinking/using they often steal to get money for their habit, they often sleep around, have affairs, etc, and they often think only of the old MEMEME. They tell lies to get what they want or to cover up and they let others down. (not all but many do some or all of these things)
Perhaps he meant as you continue your sobriety make these habits not a part of your sobriety. Be an upstanding citizen.
In my recovery I have tried to be jsut that. Morally upright.

Welllllllll..... LOL ;D
Moral: relating to principles of right and wrong in behavior/conforming to a standard of what is right and good.
Oh boy....LOL This will be an interesting day...LOL
Boy, I'd love to tell you that I'm 100% on this one cuz I'd like all my behaviors to be moral. Immoral, for me, includes that 'sleezy' perception--but it's also those subtle things that those seven deadly sins can come disguised as. Ya know, like 'little white lies' and manipulations and all that good jazz, well not really GOOD good--you know what I mean..LOL
I'm not 100% IMMORAL, dangit...LOL But I certainly do have character defects and don't always conform on the side of what's right and good. I can find myself dancing with truth/lie/truth/lie/truth/lie some moments and what's right about THAT? LOL Now granted, I will tell on myself if I've managed to momentarily give myself permission to be less than honest....but I still manage to do battle with those absolutes (honesty, purity, unselfishness and love).
And dangit....sometimes I still LIKE being naughty. *blushing*
Fine...LOL Guess I carry this one around today and practice, practice, practice!

Dear Lin---Thanks for the explanation of "morally upright" I am trying to listen & learn about this chip. Glad you could stop by! Mistyeve
My Very Dear Graced----The chips are based on the 7 deadly sinds cuz an alcoholic priest (John Doe) was the inventor and you know how those priests like to talk about sin! LOL You had me smiling real hard when ya talked about being "naughty" I can sure understand how that feels! Yeah I am gonna mentally chew on this one today too!!! PROGRESS NOT PERFECTION!!! The 4 absolutes in my opinion are targets to shoot for but I don't feel rotten if I don't get them 100%. Any way thanks sooo much for stopping by and verifying and reinforcing how I think and feel about this chip! Hugs & Thanks Mistyeve

Have always had good morals, it is only when I was acting out in my disease, that they became unimportant.
In today, it is about what is good or bad for me, not what is 'good' or 'bad'. What is good for some, isn't necessarily good for someone else.

Hey Mistyeve,
Gonna give you some more food to think about:-
"Step Four- Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves."
Therefore does that mean that anyone who doesn't make a moral inventory of themselves is immoral?
I think not.
For me I find morality to be living with God in my life and living with His tenents. ie the Ten Commandments, the Seven Deadly Sins and so on. Morality for me is just trying to be a good person who has God in their life. Taking my 4th step I found all sorts of "wonderful" character defects but I would not consider them immoral. Step 4 took the "self" out of me. The things that I found were not crimes against God nor humanity. I found my defects and things that I needed to improve to make myself a better person.
Love & God Bless Arlene

Dear Caressa---Yeah I like the idea of good or bad as you understand it That is like the 3rd step where it is God as you understand him. Thanks for stopping by----Mistyeve
Dear Arlene----I was told early on that it is a moral inventory not an immoral inventory. The 4th step does clean up a lot of the wreckage of the past. Thanks for stopping by! You sure got me thinking!---- Mistyeve
