It is the end of an era for me. I will be divorced in a month and my job is hanging by a thread cuz it is so slow. I could really drip with self pity but then I forget myself and my problems when I try to help or pray for someone else. Are you into self pity or do you try to forget about yourself???? Please let me know! Thanks!!! Mistyeve

I try to avoid self pity. It only drags me down. It makes me feel like a wimp...like i want it all to me about MEMEME. I can usually pull out of a spell of feeling sorry for myself by finding somethig to be grateful abuot in the situation. That almost always does the trick. Another way to get out of ME and help another person. That will do it quickly TOO! Jut gettin gto a meeting helps in fact. Often i write down my felings...read them over and they usually appear to be making excuses and putting myself first...not thinking of the other people in the situation. Accepting things i cannot change and changing things i can...also can turn a pity party around.
I'm greatful I have learned so many ways to be happy with my life. Self forgetful is an interesting way to say THOUGHTFUL. And today I try to be thoughtful much more of the time than I am in self-pity.

Dear Lin----You are absolutely right about self pity dragging you down. When I am feeling sorry for myself I don't have any energy and I tend to look at the ground rather then face the world. The attitude is real important. I was asked early on in treatment:is the glass 1/2 empty or 1/2 full??? I need to remember all this stuff cuz it is real important in keeping a positive attitude. Thanks so much for stopping by! It is always so good to hear from you Hugs & Thanks---- Mistyeve

Self Pity is a place I can go, especially when I am not feeling well and can't do what I would like to do. This site helps me to share with others and helps me get out of self and away from my health. School is certainly doing that also. I was able to share and be supportive of a girl there today. The program works outside of the rooms as well as in them.

Dear Caressa----The last part of the 12th step says to practice these principles in all our affairs. I take that to mean that I should carry it out of the rooms of the meetings and bring it into my everyday life. I agree with you that this web site is a good way to carry the msg to others. I especially like the fact that I can stay at home to do it. Thanks for stoppin by!-----Mistyeve
