Welcome to the site Moe.
Most of us tried dozen and hundreds of times on our own to quit and usually with not much for results. When I got sick and tired of being sick and tired and willing to listen to them idiots that didn't know nothing and wanted to preach to me than things started to work. Funny how smart they got after a while haha. Bottom line was my way wasn't working and if they had been sober a while than what they where doing must of been working.
You could try going to AA. There is only one requirement for AA membership and that is the desire to stay sober. It does not state that you have to be sober to attend. If it is a normal group ( normal for an alcoholic group---what the hell is normal hahaha) there will be some that don't like one coming to a meeting drunk. But some of the best stuff I have learned came from drunken alkies at meetings. And besides. Who are they to say if one has the desire or not. Try a few meetings for yourself and see if you get anything out of them. Find someone there that has the kind of soberity you want and try learn from them.
You have a great day and keep coming back.
Ron

My prayers are with you. I couldn't stop either. I could quit but I couldn't stay stopped until I found a 12 Step Program. I went to AA and NA and found out I also qualified for Al-Anon. They helped me look at why I was drinking in the first place and my desire to drink left me.
