TUESDAY CHIP---EQUALITY/PREJUDICE
One of the things I have always admired about the 12-step
programs is the sense of equality among all members. No
boss, no chief, no one to make you feel less important than
the person sitting next to you.
I am a human being, like any other, I have feelings,
I have likes and dislikes.... I try to do the right thing
and I try to treat those around me with respect and dignity.
I don't allow anyone to make me feel "less than".....
I treat my friends and family and all those I meet as my
equals. Not more than, not less than I would like to be
treated.
On the flip side is PREJUDICE and I had immediately thought
of racial prejudice. I kept looking at the word, I broke it down
to Pre - Judge. That didn't quite fit what I was thinking so
I went to Webster- - prej·u·dice
1. An adverse judgment or opinion formed beforehand
or without knowledge or examination of the facts.
2. A preconceived preference or idea
I was pretty close with pre-judge...
I have been known to read the future, foretell exactly how
a situation is going to turn out. And the worst of it is, I can
create all the scenarios in my mind and it makes me nuts.
Maybe my condition is like a mild case of post traumatic stress,
in the past a situation turned out bad and now I equate it
to what might be happening today.
Any way, not sure if any of that made sense to you, but
I have to be very careful of prejudicial feelings. I don't
want to be to quick to judge the outcome or behaviors
of my addicted loved ones, or anyone for that matter.
I'm rambling Hope you had a great Tuesday, SG
