THURSDAY CHIP---GENEROSITY/GREED
I don't borrow from friends or family and I am not big on lending to either in this category. I know if I do lend money, it is with the understanding that it will be paid back, unless specified as a gift.
I have a neighbor who keeps coming over to "borrow" a cigarette. In the beginning I did "give" her a couple. Bad mistake, she is becoming a real pest! My generosity paved the way for her to become a mooch.
Now when she shows up at my door, I no longer give-loan-sell her any cigs. I don't consider this greedy on my part, I am just tired of this. I smoke, I don't ask others fiance my habit and don't expect others to ask me to finance theirs.
I give generously to several charitable organizations, but the lady next door is not among them.....
Peace on the journey, SunnyGirl

My favorite definition of greed is "Wanting to be other than were you are in the moment."
I have never had a lot to give, yet a firm believer that if I have food for one, there is enough for two. The addict in me says, "One is good, more is better." It is something that I have to keep in balance and turn a negative into a positive, especially when it comes to donuts.

Without a doubt, I am generous. I share what I have with my freinds and family. I love to get names off of the giving tree at church and shop for kids I dont even know.
The only thing I am greedy about is my own serenity. I dont want to allow anybody to take any of that from me@

In my opinion the key to true generousity is doing something or contributing something without being found out.
This is sort of cute. Some years back I was going to be out of town for a while and asked daughter if she would mow the yards for some rental property I have. When I got back someone from AA thanked me for having her mow the lawn at the club house. I didn't ask her to. I told her thank you and she asked how I knew she did it. I told her that someone saw her and thought it was nice of her to do it. She said, "Well, there goes my anonymity.” At our club house there are about 3 main contributors. Two are well known for their generosity. But the 3rd is not. I know what one of the donors contributes and have an idea of the other. But what the 3rd donates only two people know. Himself and me. The reason I know is I put the money in the envelop after the meeting. There is always a folded dollar. Inside the folded dollar is a five dollar bill. Inside the five dollar bill is a 20 dollar bill. Sometimes there is more. He goes to more than one meeting a week. At the meetings he contributes also in various amounts. He happens to be a personal friend of mine and over the years I have watched his generosity more than once.
My dad was the kind of guy that generous without needing a lot of affirmations for it. Personally I think he had the right idea.
Take care,
Ron
