FRIDAY CHIP---PRAISE/CRITICIZE

I am watching my 6 year old Grandson today, he goes
to a year round school and is on a winter break. He
and I are allot alike, both tend to be stubborn, but I
always win the argument (I'm bigger). One thing I
learned with my children, I get much more out of them
when I use praise. When I criticize their efforts they
would shut down and get more stubborn. My grandson
swells his chest and is so proud of himself when I
brag or praise him for his efforts.

Constructive criticism can be useful, but not many people
like to hear their ideas put down. Today I am on the
praise side of this chip, I'm happy the little one is happy,
even the dogs are happy.......

Which side of this chip are you on today?

I am on both sides. I must be more on the praise side as people see me as having a positive attitude for the most part. If I see something that needs inprovement I try not to critize it as much as point out that there is a better way. With all the mistakes I have mad I really am not in much of a position to critize anyone else.

PS Do have one question for you Cherie. You said you and 6 yr old have a lot in common. Mind if I ask who is the most mature? :-)

I am usually very much on teh PRAISe side of this chip. But this morning I got my day started wrong and found myself criticising.

I go to Wal mart nearly every morning. This day I was running later than usual. There was one line open by the checkout. I only had 3 things. The man behind me had 1. The two in front of us had overflowing baskets...like several hundred dollars. I asked the manager, who was standing by the other early register if she woudl open for a few minutes. She todl me NO. 4 people in line...shoudl could have opened for the 2 short orders at the end of the line, but she said NO. There are 3 other managers and they do it all the time. I saw one of them do it today. I was not happy and found myself very critical of that one manager.

It could be, because I was in a hurry. If I was not in a hurry to get back and take the dogs to the groomer becfore I went to work, I may not have even asked.

So Friday, count me as critical.
