I was shocked when I came into recovery and heard how many people hated Christmas. After I heard a few people's stories, I realized why it was a difficult time for them.
I had a few I would like to forget (the year I quit smoking and stayed home alone with a TV dinner), yet on the whole, it has been good time for me. I love presents, yet for me that isn't the meaning of Christmas. When I focus on the reason for the holiday and remember it is just another 24 hours, it is good.
My first sober Christmas I was with family but then went to the Area Social Club which was open 24 hours over the holidays to share with those who didn't have family. There were times in my recovery that the only family I had was my AA family, when I didn't know where my son was and was disconnected from my sister and her family.
Hope everyone has a safe and sober holiday.

Re: FRIDAY'S CHIP - Love/Hate
Tis the season to be jolly....
I can remember being a kid and getting so excited about Christmas, watching my Grandkids is almost as much fun.
I love the decorations and lights and the smell of the pine tree. A warm fire place and family sitting around talking, the little ones almost hyper-vigilant over their gifts under the tree. The 5 day wait is almost more than they can bear.
Christmas is all about love.... Love is the key to peace and happiness ...... Love needs to be practiced all year long.... Love needs to flow to those around us.... Love needs to make us happy....
I Love each and everyone of you...... SunnyGirl

We love you too, SG! Do you love snow in vegas? We had an ice storm that shut down schools an hour early on MOn, closed all day on Tues, and started an hour late on Wed. Then Friday we had 65 degrees and winds abotu 30 to 35 MPH. Freaky weather this week for both of us! love/hate? I love the holidays. I always have. Even when I was a kid and the parents would drink or fight, I still liked allof the lights, cookies, etc. My spouse has mixed emotiohns abotu it because of the year he spend in a hole full of cold water in Viet Nam on Christmas....no warm meal, no tree, no family/friends, etc. Yesterday I went to the funeral home. MOnday I went to the funeral home. Today I am going to the funeral home. The one today is a 27 year old former student who committed suicide. This will not be a happy holidayfor those families... I consider HATE to be a very strong word. I don't use it to describe any foods or any people. The closest I can come to HATE is I HATE what this disease has done to so many people I know and love. It's devastating. LIN
