EMBRACE THE POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE IN WHOLENESS
"Only when we can love hell will we find heaven."
-- Unknown source
People often view the spiritual path as a search for the light. In truth, spirituality asks us to bring light and darkness together in wholeness. And in fact, this is the only possible solution. In our world of duality, any effort to focus all attention on the light only serves to increase the power of the darkness. Our aim is not to deny or reject anything but to embrace it all.
"When you are able to contain both the light and dark together, that is a very enlightening state. It means that you no longer have to choose one experience over another. You do not have to choose love OR hate, blame OR forgiveness, sadness OR joy, anger OR openheartedness. You are no longer polarized; no particular feeling boxes you in and keeps you from the light of true self. You then have access to the full range of human experiences you came into this life to embrace." -- Martia Nelson

THOUGHT FOR TODAY:
It is difficult dealing with emotions. It is important that I don't deny what I feel. It is okay to be angry, it is what I do with that anger and how I express it that is important. It is okay to just be! Life has given me many old tapes, but it is important for me to find my own truth and walk in it.
I lived a lie for most of my life. Recovery is about freedom of self. Freedom from the bondage of addiction, allows me to be me. This card was written by my friend and put on her Reiki site after she saw my post with the saying written on it. She contacted me and asked for my permission to use it.
I was 49 when I came into recovery. I was told I was 15 years mentally because of a lot of things that happened to me when I was 14.
I had no concept of an inner child. One friend said, "What do you mean, you are just one big kid that never grew up.!" I am not too sure about that today. I think she was just hiding in fear and built walls for protection, because she shut down at 3 years old. When I saw my brother killed at three, I had already experienced surgery at a year old and a burn which kept me hospitalized for a week at eighteen months. Shutting down and shutting off became my survival tool. Recovery has allowed me to take those bricks down one by one so that I can again face the world.
There was a lot of darkness in my life. It is only when I brought the light and dark together like it says in the quote, that I was able to let go and heal. I had to expres and share that darkness. Secrets are what caused a lot of that pain. When I bring it out and examine it, I can file it away, even if it is File 13.
I call my Higher Power my (W)Holy Spirit. Through working all the Steps, I filled the empty hole inside and found what the program promised me, and I learned to love and like me.
