Haven't had this one for a while. It sure applies to my life in today. Usually, I am quite stable on the whole but today I did panic. I didn't get violent and I didn't beat myself up either.
My son offered to go to the grocery store for me and took my keys to get back into my building. I told him that I had to work between 1-4 p.m. and he said, "I should be back by then." Needless to say he wasn't.
I went to the Housing office and a new staff member was on the reception desk. She said, "We don't have the key." My partner came and he didn't have a key and he called a couple of the other volunteers who have keys and got their answering machines. While he went back to his place, which is across the street, I went back to the office. Another staff member was there and told her that I didn't have my keys, that I had a senior moment and didn't take off the computer room key my ring when I gave my son my keys to go grocery shopping for me. She phoned the maintenance person for the building and he came and opened up. It was about 5 minutes late and had 3 people waiting.
Then the panic really happened. The fire alarm went off. It is really, really LOUD! With my impaired vision I couldn't find the code to turn it off. I finally found it where I didn't think it was and quiet reigned once again! LOL.
The external me was calm and I don't think I looked like I lost it, but boy, inside their were a few moments of insanity.
It was a senior moment. But as the saying goes, "This too shall pass."
I phoned my son at 1:45 p.m. and he was in my apartment. That relieved the worry about closing the door at 4 p.m.
