When I first came to EOR, I came for learning how to deal with an addict, even tho I never thought of me that needing the dealing with. Hmmm.. It took baby steps to learn to let go and let God handle my affairs, whatever that was for the moment. Having a husband as an addict was something that you never imagine you would have in your life plans. Altho I myself used to be one, but having been clean for over 20 years I never realize just how hard it was from the other point of view.
I took alot of baby steps to get where I am today. My husband did too. We both had to learn tools on both of our recovery. Mine to deal with his ways of his addiction and his to deal with someone that set boundaries. Altho we both have different point of views on working the program how it should be we never not disagree that it does work if you work it as long as its in regards to working the 12 steps.
Come to think of it a marriage can even be based on 12 steps. LOL
Today is a happy occasion as its my husband 5th anniversary of his sobriety. We have come along way in our baby steps. We still have more to do as its a life long thing. Similar to a marriage it takes work to make it work. I am so proud of him and am happy he kept his promise not to go back and pick up.
Tonight he will be going to a meeting to get his chip from his brother that has been sober for 12 years. They together do this each year give each other a token and a hug for the fact that they made it. Proud moment to watch and proud moment to keep as a memory.
