These were my nemisis and I find myself 'controlling' how much I spend on them. I don't buy them every day, but when I get the urge, I allow myself $3-$5. no more. If I win that is good, if I don't I walk away and believe me that took a lot of prayer and turning over to my Higher Power.
I use to buy them $20. at a time and on my budget it wasn't feasible. It may not seem to be a lot for some people but when you balance my income with what I was putting out for Lotto 649, Super 7 and Nevade Tickets, it was something I couldn't afford and often ended up robbing Peter to pay Paul.
I have found so many people buying scratch ticket, going to Casinos and buying Lotto tickets. One woman in my building said, "I just won $25." She was so excited but she just can't calculate how much it cost her to win. My AA sponsor found herself going to GA. A good friend of mine who lives in my building I would never see if I didn't run into him going to and from the store to get scratch tickets. He often goes to the Casino and I hope he doesn't lose more than he can afford although he seems to be okay. I know that when I walked into the Niagara Casino I felt the buzz. Instant high and really scarey and I said to my gentleman friend who took me, "I shouldn't be here!" Just the fact that he picked me up at 11 p.m. at night to go play should have been warning enough. We are leaving at 5 a.m. in the morning and he says, "I am tired, why don't we get a motel room, we are both consenting adults." I said if you were tired you should have decided to leave earlier. I said, "My license has expired, but if you aren't capable of driving me home, I will drive." I said, "Open your window and get fresh air, turn on the music and I will talk and you keep awake and get me home! Needless to say I didn't see him after that. This was the guy who told me he saw my aura and had a picture of a milky way when he saw me. Well he had to go find another one because this gal isn't open to space travel that way! He was a counsellor at a treatment center where my sponsee went for treatment. Unfortunately, she died as a result of her disease. She chose not to stay.
I choose not to carry the message, "To use is to die!" I can die in more ways than in the physical sense.
